Museum of local art and traditions from the 19th century to the 1960’s.
The “Yesteryear House” presents furniture, clothes, regional headdresses and bonnets, tools and everyday paraphernalia in nine themed rooms. The museum pays homage to the famous LECLENCHE batteries whose factory once stood in the town. Stroll from a typical poitevin living room past the 19th century bourgeois garments and regional headdresses and bonnets to the room housing religious items. Other rooms are dedicated to white cooperage, woodwork, yesterday’s toys, an exciting collection of the very first wirelesses…Many professions are represented, from the smithy to the wine grower, from the rural policeman to the midwife!
A NEW EXHIBITION HALL PART OF WHICH RETRACES THE TOWN’S HISTORY
A new exhibition hall opened in 2012 for temporary exhibitions.
However one side retraces the town’s history. The Carolingian era is represented by a recreation of what Louis le Pieux (King Louis the Pious), said to have been born in Chasseneuil, would have worn. A sword dating back to Charlemagne (8th century A.D.) is also on show. Then journey through time to the 18th century via numerous documents and laws concerning everyday life in the town.
